The project stories below describe some examples of past work by MATE’s current procurement staff. Activities of similar size and scope are currently underway at MATE.

CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Industrial equipment procurement - A project for a chemical client involved in the manufacturing of swimming pool chemicals called for heavy industrial equipment procurement services. This project was for tablet and packaging area improvements to the client’s loading and unloading facilities. Procurement involved, but was not limited to: a new loading dock, equipment and materials for the new bridge, a new conveyor elevator system, a new pallet stretch wrapper, as well as building security system, ESD and fire protection systems.

On-site purchasing services - One special assignment for one of our lead procurement agents involved a lengthy contract assignment to serve as a buyer at client site. For this assignment, the agent worked directly in the client’s Purchasing Department and handled lead buyer responsibilities. This role included utilizing SAP to place plant personnel project order requests. These requests were for on-site projects and involved materials such as piping, valves, and conduit, as well as heavy industrial equipment. This assignment also included expediting and the responsibility for procuring the services of contractors for various work within the plant through contractor service order authorizations.

Fast track procurement services - After a chemical plant fire incident, one of our lead procurement agents was utilized for fast track procurement services. These services involved not only purchasing, but tracking and expediting equipment and materials necessary to replace equipment lost or damaged during the fire. Much of the purchased equipment was electrical in nature and involved controls and instrumentation such as: analyzers, heat tracing panels, controllers, light fixtures, ballasts, pressure transmitters, control valves and block valves.

NATURAL GAS INDUSTRY

Procurement for natural gas storage station - This project involved procuring all the materials and equipment necessary to complete a new natural gas compressor station and storage field. This project was necessary to meet the growing energy needs of the client's Mid-Atlantic customers. Numerous buildings were procured including: a gas chromatograph building, a methanol building, a compressor building (with full basement), a regulator building, a dehydration controls building and an auxiliary building to house the office, lunchroom, instrument room, MCC, shop area and air compressor room. Procured equipment included: two compressor gas coolers, two compressor oil coolers, two harp separators, a new slug catcher, seven new filter separators, twenty-one storage tanks, blowdown silencers, methanol injection pumps, meter runs and all instrumentation, air compressor and tanks, boiler, make-up air units, regulators, large bore pipe (thousands of feet of pipe 12" and 20"), cable trays, valves and fittings.

Compressor station turbine unit and associated equipment procurement - This project involved procurement activities necessary to order primary equipment and facilities to increase storage capabilities at a client's existing facility. Equipment and related facilities were procured through the client’s SAP ordering system. Major equipment purchased included: a 20,000 HP Solar Titan Turbine, lube oil cooler, fuel gas heater, standby black start generator, two Electrical substations, and a main turbine building. This natural gas liquids storage facility installation doubled the client’s storage capacity.

Grassroots compressor station procurement - A natural gas client was installing a grassroots mainline compressor station for a major pipeline expansion. The project involved engineering, design, procurement and construction inspection. The procurement portion of the project involved handling invoice payments, expediting and purchasing the compressor station buildings, heavy equipment and auxiliary equipment such as: pipe, valves, fittings, lighting, electrical switchgear, electrical substation, buildings, tanks, operators, instrumentation, gas and fire detection components, gas coolers, gas separators, heating system, air compressors, standby generator, and a flare system.
